Which are the types of cables available for electric transmission?

Electrical cables come in several different types, shapes, and sizes and also have different applications. You must have proper knowledge of the different available cables in order to understand which one is most suitable for your house or industry. Once you know what you need to buy then it saves your budget as well as time.

  • TPS:

TPS or tough plastic shield cable is usually white in color and is enveloped in a hard plastic shield. This cable is widely used in houses as it is quite cheap and it is not made for industrial use. Typical sizes of TPS cables available are 1.5mm^2 and 2.5mm^2 in the form of “twin and earth”. The main components of these cables are a “neutral” wire, an “active” wire and an earth wire.

  • Armoured:

This is a type of cable specially designed for mine sites. It is a variant of orange circular cable which is protected by steel strands. These strands are added to prevent the damage to the cable and increase its life.

  • Orange circular cable:

Basically orange circular cable is a form of a circular cable which is orange. This wire or cable is UV treated and finds usage in the industrial sector for multiple applications. Generally, it contains 3 to 5 cores or wires, as per the application and is a form of a multicore wire.

  • Building wire:

This is a single core cable which comes with a single insulation layer. Building wire as the name suggests is used in houses but it is being replaced by TFS wires to a great extent

  • SDI:

SDI is a variant of building wire but it is double insulated. The second layer provides high mechanical protection, and durability.

Other common types of cables available for electrical transmission includes flexible, coaxial, and EMC cables.
